Stop right there.
Before you scroll past this thinking, “Dan doesn’t get it… I barely have time to breathe”… let me tell you about a conversation I had last week.
Guy tells me he can’t get into real estate. Full-time job. Wife. Kids. The whole deal. “I just don’t have time, Dan.”
So I got curious. Walked him through his typical day.
Gets up at 6:30. Works till 5. Drives home. Dinner. Then what?
“Well, around 8:30 I need to unwind… maybe watch some TV, doom scroll for a bit. Next thing I know it’s 10 o’clock.”
I asked him one question: “How much time did you actually have yesterday?”
He thought about it. “I don’t know… maybe two to three hours?”
Perfect. That’s more than enough time to change your life.
The 8-Hour Work Week is a Factory Relic
Here’s what most people don’t know about the 40-hour work week…
Henry Ford created it. Not because it was optimal for results. Because it worked for assembly lines and factory workers.
Eight hours work. Eight hours play. Eight hours sleep.
That made sense when you were tightening bolts on Model T’s. But your real estate business isn’t a factory line.
What actually scales is focus and intensity.
Recent studies show people in traditional 8-hour jobs actually work about 2-3 productive hours per day. The rest? Meetings about meetings. Email ping-pong. Looking busy.
So here’s the real question… Do you want to work longer? Or work smarter?
The Only Three Things That Actually Matter
I see people overthinking this business every single day. They want to master 47 different marketing channels. Learn advanced negotiation tactics. Build complex funnels.
Stop.
Real estate is three things:
- Talk to sellers
- Make offers
- Follow up
That’s it. Those are your money-making activities.
Everything else is just noise keeping you from what actually moves the needle.
Your Identity Problem (Not Your Time Problem)
Most people think they have a time problem. They don’t.
They have an identity problem.
If you don’t see yourself as someone who executes daily… your actions won’t match. Your results will be mixed or nonexistent.
You have to make your current actions match the person you want to become.
I still have to drag myself to the gym most mornings at 5:30. It’s not about motivation. It’s about identity.
I am someone who shows up. Even when I don’t feel like it.
The Real Solution: Time Blocking That Actually Works
Don’t just put “work on real estate” in your calendar.
Get specific:
- “Call 5 sellers from last week’s leads”
- “Send follow-up texts to 3 warm prospects”
- “Research comps for Johnson property”
Time is like money. If you don’t tell it what to do, it’ll tell you what to do.
Block your calendar. Live by it. Give yourself some grace early on… but make it non-negotiable.
The person you are at 7 AM tomorrow needs to be different than who you were today.
Your Next Move
What’s one thing you’re going to start doing differently tomorrow?
Not next week. Not when things slow down. Tomorrow.
Because here’s the truth… your next deal could be in the next 10-15 focused hours.
If you really believed that, would you treat your time differently?
Time to find out.
