**The Deal You Can’t Close (And the Pain You Won’t Feel)**
I was sitting there. Phone in my hand. Knowing exactly what I needed to do.
The lead was hot. The opportunity was real. Everything lined up perfectly.
But I didn’t make the call.
It wasn’t that I didn’t know what to say. It wasn’t a skills problem. There was something deeper… something I didn’t want to feel.
Maybe you’ve been there too?
**It’s Never Really About the Deal**
Here’s what I discovered after years of wrestling with this: The things holding us back in business are almost never business problems.
That procrastination? That overthinking? That voice telling you you’re not ready yet?
It’s not laziness. You’re not broken. Your brain is trying to protect you from something that happened way before you ever heard the word “wholesale.”
I learned about this from Dr. John Sarno’s work with chronic pain patients. He discovered that physical pain was often the brain’s way of distracting people from emotional pain they couldn’t face.
The mind would rather keep you in pain than let you feel what’s buried beneath.
Sound familiar?
**Your Business is a Mirror**
We don’t fear the phone call. We fear the rejection and how it’s going to make us feel.
We don’t avoid making offers. We avoid being told we’re not enough… again.
That pattern in your business? It’s a mirror of a wound from your past.
For me, it started early. No dad around. Mom battling her own demons. I was overweight, picked on, had zero self-confidence. The “not enough” story got wired deep.
Every time I had to put myself out there in business, that old wound would surface.
**The Framework That Changes Everything**
Here’s how you break free:
**Step 1: Recognize the pattern.** Where do you keep getting stuck? What are you avoiding? When’s the first time you remember feeling that way?
This isn’t a five-minute exercise. Find somewhere quiet. Go back to that moment when the story got written.
**Step 2: Rewrite the story.** That belief you’ve been operating from? It came from a younger version of yourself who didn’t have the context you have today.
Old belief: “If I put myself out there, I’ll get rejected.”
New belief: “I move towards discomfort because that’s where growth lives.”
This isn’t positive thinking. This is identity reconstruction.
**Step 3: Reinforce through action.** You can’t just think your way out. You have to act your way into a new identity.
Face what you’re avoiding. Make decisions quickly. Send the offer. Make the call.
**The Real Work**
Confidence isn’t fearless. Confidence is taking action while you’re still afraid.
God hasn’t given you a spirit of fear. So if you’re feeling it, that’s not your true identity.
The wounds are real. The past happened. But it’s not who you are.
Your business will not outgrow your identity. This is the real work.
The deal you can’t close, the call you won’t make, the offer you won’t send… it’s not a skills problem.
It’s an identity problem.
And if you do this work, everything changes.
